Both men and women have unique traits that they can use to their advantage at the poker table. While some masculine traits can give players a leg up, such as being competitive and aggressive, others can lead to taking a major hit in your chip stack. Thinking of things like sensitive egos or a competitive edge turned to hostility.
On the other hand, females are generally more patient and disciplined and often more aware of body language and understanding people's feelings. This allows them to read their opponents better. All of which leads to a belief that if men could only get in touch with their "feminine side," perhaps they'd fare better in big tournaments.
Over-analyze your opponents
One of the things men accuse women of, is over thinking and overanalyzing everything. On the other hand, men are guilty of not listening or paying enough attention to what women or opposing poker players are trying to tell them. By virtue of how they're hardwired, men simply are not born communicators.
Nowhere is this more apparent than at a poker a table populated with men concealing all forms of communication. It is so common to see players covered in sunglasses, hat, hood, mask and other things to conceal their tells and emotions from opponents. But too often players expend too much energy hiding their tells, which are almost inevitable, and not enough focusing on what their opponents are communicating through words, actions, and body languages.
Always Measure Risk over the Reward.
Women are almost excellent at measuring potential risks and rewards in the business world, probably because they do the same thing when strange men approach them. Women always have their secret standards of quality in judging different kinds of situations.
Everything at the poker table and in life for that matter should be viewed as a business transaction with potential risk and reward taken into account. While you might have a good hand, you still have to consider your opponent's hand not just your hand. Certainly analyzing and knowing the odds is important and will often be the deciding factor in whether you play, make a bet, or make a call. However, sometimes when the entire math adds up and it makes sense for you to make a certain decision, don't ignore what your instinct tells you.
If you really pay attention, it could lead to an amazing call and a lot of extra chips.
